Caroline Joan Peixoto

Founder and Director

Ms. Peixoto is a classically trained ballerina who has been dancing and performing for over 18 years. She apprenticed under Marcella Contessi from the Theatro Lirico di Milano. She studied Social Psychology and History at Thomas Edison State College. Her dream is to one day have an arts center where children and adults can come to experiment with any medium.

Molly K. McPherson

Director of Public Relations

Ms. McPherson has been passionate about Ballet Rwanda ever since its inception, and has given countless hours to fundraising, marketing, and representation of BR’s mission and vision. She is a graduate of the Catholic University of America and is currently a Masters candidate in International Trade and Investment Policy at the George Washington University.

Rachel Thies

Assistant Teacher

Ms. Thies has been a valuable asset for Ballet Rwanda ever since she joined the staff in 2010. A well rounded dancer, Rachel grew up taking ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop. She has done extensive choreography and worked at several dance studios in the States before moving to Rwanda. She studied Elementary Education at Harding University, and teaches at the International School of Kigali in addition to BR.

Ballet Rwanda's mission is to invest in the development of arts in Rwanda. Its goal is to encourage and motivate creativity in children by being an arena in which they can  be free to express themselves through music and dance.

Opening in 2009, Ballet Rwanda quickly realized it was filling a serious void in the country as it was overwhelmed with over 40 students in the first month. Since then, BR has become a full fledged dance studio with just under 100 students running weekly classes and various programs for children of all backgrounds, from the underprivileged, to those who have been studying ballet in their home countries. Ballet Rwanda is the first classical ballet company in Rwanda, and in 2010, the first ever production of The Nutcracker was staged in the country.
