Ballet Rwanda’s first goal is to bring dance, in the form of classical ballet, to children who have not yet had the opportunity to discover the abilities of their own bodies, and from there, to motivate creativity and individuality. Ballet Rwanda’s classes will be observant of Rwanda’s native Inganzo ballet, and will look to incorporate cultural nuances into its daily routines and performances.

Dance is primal; it is intrinsic, natural, and necessary. Dance is an art form, but more specifically, it is an expression of the creativity that each individual has within them. The fluid movement of any one person is distinctive and impossible to duplicate. It offers a release – a time when your body is unrestricted and you describe your feelings without words.

The fueling and encouragement of creativity in a child’s life is crucial. To stifle or ignore this element would be to disregard that which makes the child uniquely him or her. In its turn, dance as a physical and creative outlet offers a child structure, attainable goals, and visible results.
